Chrysler plans to build EV using Fiat 500 base

Well, green cars are not new especially in the American markets but surely the scenario is going to change in the next few years with American markets flooded with various small battery powered electric cars. The variety of options to choose from would include Nissan leaf, Ford Focus EV, NXG, THINK city, megacity, BMW mini E, i-MiEV, Rva and many other dozens of cars under plans. While it is a good new that Chrysler plans to build and engineer pure electric cars that are based on the Fiat 500 platform but the models would be available only full fledged by the year 2012 and 2013. The first 500 EVs production plan has already been announced and the first set of gasoline powered Fiat 500 would go on sale in North America in the late 2010. The first set of car would be produced at Mexico, Toluca. According to the officials at Chrysler, they state that the powertrain engineering and development would happen at Chrysler headquarters in Michigan.

The new and soon to be unveiled Fiat 500 EV first made its debut in 2010 North American International Auto show, it is going to be a group alliance of Chrysler and Fiat group. The Chrysler company plans to include a five year progressive vehicle electrification strategy and it has already put a full stop on its much ambitious plans for ENVI electric vehicle, the plan also included Dodge circuit electric sports car. Although there are no clear details about the latest Fiat 500 EV, the car has three main systems that includes a high power electric engine, lithium ion batteries and the vehicle control unit and that manages the power flow of the machine. The main concept at the 2010 Auto show was a range of 100 miles between its charges. The prices are not yet announced but according to the market buzz it is said to be charged in and around $30,000.

The new Fiat 500 EV is a concept electric car, that would provide seating arrangements for two people because batteries occupy much space in small electric cars. The closest competitors to the new Fiat 500 EV would be Mini E from BMW that is also a two seater vehicle car. The Chrysler group has several other plans under its belly, the company has been selected for US department grant of up to $48 million to produce 140 RAM hybrid vehicles. It would be a three year demonstration project in varied geographic and climatic locations across the country.
