There is a lot of experts in many of our cities all around the world that are continuously engaging in various plans and ideas that can help to re-invent a better way to service citizens of our communities with adequate mobility needs. If you live in a metropolitan area or you live in a busy city, can you imagine just for a few minutes the idea of using another means of transportation rather than always relying on a vehicle? Let’s face it, we live in a high-tech time where there are numerous other choices that are available to us, such as riding a bicycle, driving an electric vehicle (EV), walking and enjoying the healthy exercise received on your way to work or school, or maybe even an electric bus that receives its power through the road. All throughout history, there has been a countless number of city planners that have continuously taken on the task of trying to implement a beneficial way of mobility that citizens can benefit from the most. Unfortunately, a large majority of the time, the mode of transportation that ends up being selected is the ever-popular automobile.

The new series known as “Fixing the Great Mistake” recently played an episode where Paul Steely, Transportation Alternatives Director, addressed the huge problem that has occurred over time in New York and how most of its citizens have become very car-centric. An important topic that was mentioned in the series was how this beautiful city is trying to bring the days of old back, by bringing the beauty and peace back of having adults and children walking through summer streets, instead of seeing bumper to bumper automobiles. This is certainly an idea that would be much healthier to all individuals, and it would be much more beneficial for the environment.

The Streetfilms series is a show that takes a look at the different things that went wrong in the beginning of the 20th Century, back when many of our cities started the habit of catering to vehicles that a countless number of individuals drive, and how decisions such as this can affect society as a whole. Seeing this episode of the series shocked numerous people when they took a look at the dramatic differences that have occurred to streets such as Park Avenue, what this street looked like long ago, and the steps that need to be taken so it can look that way again.
