Mercedes-Benz Plans to go All-Hybrid with S-Class Models
It has been learned through information on Mercedes-Benz that the popular manufacturing company has plans for their S-Class next generation vehicles to be all-hybrid. However, this does not include the AMG models.
It looks like by the time the year 2012 rolls around; the S-Class that features gas-only will be the company’s arm exclusive preserve. When it comes to the United States, there has been no talk as of yet that the German manufacturer plans to provide both hybrid and regular versions of the same model.
At this time Daimler’s range only offers one variation of gasoline or electric in the W221 S-Class. The S400 hybrid marked at $87,950 features a 3.5-liter V6 engine that only requires a mild hybrid system for assist in providing 295 horsepower and as much as 26 mpg on the highway. Some of the other S-Class models that provide the consumer with more power and more cylinders would include the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V12 engine of the S600, and the 5.5-liter V8 engine of the S550 that provides 382 horsepower.
It is unknown if the Mercedes-Benz automaker has plans for the future of downsizing the internal-combustion that will be featured in the next S’ power train equation from all of the gas-electric strategy that is occurring. It is expected that the manufacturer will plan to produce a range of CDI diesels that will be offered to the European market, but as of now, there are no plans to offer these models to the consumers of the United States.
It is true that the plan has not been signed off on yet, but you can pretty much guarantee the plans will be fulfilled.
